A kid builds a raft, crosses an ocean alone, and talks his way past every animal trying to kill him because a cat told him there was a baby dragon on the other side. Elmer doesn't fight, he negotiates, tricks, befriends, outsmarts. The entire story is a child choosing kindness and cleverness over violence, then actually living through the consequences of that choice.
