A woman drowning in her own darkness finds someone who doesn't try to fix her, just refuses to let her drown alone. Katsuya doesn't save Kyouko, he just shows up every single day and chooses her anyway. The movie burns through 33 minutes of recap footage that wastes your time, but the hour that follows isn't a side story; it's the reason Tohru exists, the reason she knows how to love people broken, and the proof that her mother was loved first.

Kyouko Honda is remembered as wise and warm, but she was not always that way.
