This is the season that tests how much Milky Holmes goodwill you actually have. It hands the badge to a new pair while Sheryl, Nero, Elly and Cordelia drift in as cameos, and every time one of them shows up you feel the room get funnier for about ninety seconds. The short format means the zany detective-academy nonsense has to land fast, and early on it does, with a sugary, almost Disney-bright sweetness that makes the cheesiness feel intentional rather than lazy. Then the middle stretch happens, and it somehow manages to be rushed and glacial at the same time, plot beats getting shoved through while nothing seems to move. Fans of the original will still sit through all twelve, because Yokohama's stupid detective world is comfort food and the Toys premise still tickles. Just go in knowing you are here for the cameos and the leftover charm, not a second coming.

Two years after turbulent events, Milky Holmes has regained their Toys and caught most of Yokohama's phantom thieves, giving the city a stretch of peace. The Phantom Thief Empire has stayed out of sight all that time, and every member of Genius 4 besides Kokoro now works a desk job. That calm ends when a new band of thieves, Colour the Phantom, declares war on Yokohama's detectives. Kazumi and Alice, two detective academy students who admire Milky Holmes, team up to fight back under the name Feathers, hoping to someday become great detectives like their idols. The short-format comedy mystery is the third season of Tantei Opera Milky Holmes.
