You're a kid. You know the stories. You've heard them whispered in the schoolyard, tested them yourself in bathroom stalls when nobody's looking. Hanako-san doesn't feel like a ghost story you're watching, it feels like a dare you're actually taking. Each episode is short enough to hit and leave, but long enough to plant something that stays in your head when you're alone in a bathroom for real. The genius is that it doesn't need to scare you hard, just enough to make you look twice at your own school's dark corners.

A ghostly girl named Hanako haunts the school bathroom, and she's become part of urban legend whispered between students in hallways and classrooms. When strange occurrences begin happening around campus, kids start connecting the dots to old rumors they thought were just stories meant to scare friends. Hanako appears to those who seek her out or stumble into situations they shouldn't be in, and her involvement always leaves questions about what's real and what's rumor. Each episode unfolds a different supernatural incident tied to the school: a cinema screening that shouldn't happen, a promise ring that demands a terrible price, and other curses lurking in familiar places. The kids gradually realize that dismissing Hanako as myth won't make her disappear. Instead, understanding her story might be the only way to survive encounters with her. This show leans into that specific childhood dread where legends feel dangerous precisely because you're not sure if they're true. It captures what happens when scary stories stop being entertainment and start feeling like warnings from someone who knows what she's talking about.
