A girl talking to the thing inside the monster instead of fighting it. That's the entire movie, and it's enough. The nuclear option is coming, the world wants Garon dead, but she keeps talking to Pick like he's a person trapped in a body too large to control, because he is. It works because the film refuses to separate the giant from the boy, refuses to let you hate what you don't understand.

A giant called Garon arrives on Earth from space, and its presence puts all of humanity at risk of being wiped out. One girl refuses to believe that Garon is evil. She reaches out to Pick, a boy held inside Garon's body. Meanwhile, the military prepares a nuclear strike against the giant. The sci-fi mecha film was screened at the Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum in Hyogo Prefecture. It marked the 50th anniversary of Mighty Atom, known as Astro Boy, and the museum's upcoming 20th anniversary.
