Gegege no Kitarou: Youkai Tokkyuu! Maboroshi no Kisha is a 1997 film spun off from the 1996 Gegege no Kitarou TV anime, telling a story of its own rather than adapting one directly. It borrows from two tales in the 1968 television series, the Ghost Train episode and the two-part Great Yokai War, and reworks them to fit the more modern feel of the 1996 version. The film mixes adventure, comedy, fantasy and horror in a supernatural setting.
