Dr. Saotome built a better machine because the first one wasn't enough. Getter Robo G takes everything that worked about the original and refuses to pretend the world stays won, introducing a Hyakki Empire so genuinely vicious that the new robot designs feel necessary instead of decorative. The animation creaks and stutters by modern standards, but the voice acting and soundtrack nail the weight of a team that knows they're fighting something worse than before, something that doesn't stop coming.

The world has barely caught its breath after humanity's victory over the Dinosaur Empire when Dr. Saotome's worst fears materialize. The Hyakki Empire, a militaristic force whose name means Hundred Demons, rises to threaten the hard-won peace. Saotome has prepared for this day with Getter Robo G, a stronger successor to the original machine, and a new base to house it. With Musashi Tomoe dead, the team needs a third pilot, and Saotome finds one in baseball player Benkei Kuruma. The result is a giant robot sequel built around a fresh enemy and an upgraded Getter.
