This is the one that stops being about Mafuyu and turns the camera on the kid who has been holding himself together with jokes since Yuki died. Hiiragi Kashima gets his reckoning here, and Shizusumi Yagi stands right next to him the whole time saying almost nothing, which is somehow louder. Given losing the Shibuya festival audition is the setup, not the story. The story is Hiiragi asking Ritsuka to sub in on guitar for syh's debut and having to admit out loud that he needs someone. The animation still respects the instruments, fingers on actual frets, actual chord shapes, so the performances land as playing instead of posing. If you cried at Mafuyu's first song, this one gets you a different way. Quieter, meaner, aimed at the friend who was left behind and never got to say it.

Two bands stand at a turning point, each reaching toward a debut. Given has momentum but not yet a win, having missed out at a Shibuya festival audition despite drawing growing attention. Meanwhile, Shizusumi and Hiiragi, who have known Mafuyu since they were kids, are about to debut as the band "syh." When their support guitarist quits, Hiiragi, who often butts heads with Ritsuka, persuades him to fill in as a temporary member for their big show. Hiiragi even asks Ritsuka to finish an old song left behind by Yuki, Mafuyu's ex-boyfriend, while Hiiragi struggles with how to tell the reserved Shizu how he feels. At the same time, Given gets an offer to go professional. The rest of the band is thrilled, but Mafuyu, who never pictured music as a career, pulls back to weigh what the change could mean for him.
