For anyone who lived in The World:R2, this is the story you already know rewired into pure kinetic memory, old boss designs, the Twilight Brigade, Shino's ghost still hovering over everything you do. Haseo logs into The World: R2, an MMORPG where he is known as a Player Killer Killer called the Terror of Death, once part of the now disbanded Twilight Brigade guild. He confronts Azure Kite, whom he takes for the player killer Tri-Edge and blames for what happened to his friend Shino. The battle is one-sided and brutal. Azure Kite wields a strange ability called Data Drain that strips Haseo of everything: his high level, his items and weapons, his member addresses. Reduced to level 1, Haseo is left with a mystery. What is Data Drain, and why does Azure Kite have it? His search for a way to save Shino, who fell into a coma after a Tri-Edge attack six months earlier, drives him forward, and in time he gains the Avatar Skeith and its powers. The CG film follows the story of the three .hack//G.U. games.
