The Shinsengumi's war against the Rasetsu stops being background detail and becomes the actual story. Condensing two seasons into one film means every scene earns its place, every sword swing matters, and Chizuru's survival becomes urgent instead of melodramatic. The action animation is sharp enough that you forget this started as a romance game, and by the final confrontation, you're watching a historical tragedy, not a dating sim cutscene. It requires you've already loved the TV series to land completely, but if you have, this is the version you'll rewatch.

Kyoto burns with hidden conflict. A war is being fought in the shadows between the Shinsengumi, a police force serving the shogun, and the Rasetsu, vampire-like ronin warriors. Caught between these colliding worlds is Chizuru Yukimura, a young woman masquerading as a man while searching for her vanished father, a doctor named Koudou. After a violent street ambush, she is taken into custody by the Shinsengumi, who turn out to be looking for the same man. She stays with them and works as an assistant to vice commander Toshizo Hijikata. Her father has created a secret elixir that boosts strength, speed and healing, and the Rasetsu will kill to control it. This first film in a remake of the first two seasons blends action, drama and supernatural danger.
