Five guys decide their entire identity is making the worst possible faces at people. The show commits harder to this premise than it has any right to, and it keeps winning. Every episode is built on the kind of stupid-brilliant logic that only works when everyone involved understands the joke is the point, not the punchline. The 1985 animation gets grainier the more chaotic things get, which somehow makes the timing land harder. This is what happens when a show trusts that watching lovable idiots fail at being normal is enough, because it is.

Five high school students with odd faces and even odder personalities band together as the Funny-Face Group, and trouble follows wherever their wild antics take them. Their school is crowded with other eccentric cliques, including the Pretty-boy Brigade, the Buckle-down Bunch and the Rebel Crew, and the group ends up competing with many of them. Against all odds, the five also become friends with the cutest girl in school. Teachers range from crafty to clueless and get dragged into the mess, while sports tournaments turn into contests where the laws of nature barely apply. The result is a long-running comedy with a touch of romance, built on absurd, unpredictable school-day chaos.
