The premise is ridiculous on purpose, and the show knows exactly which moments to play straight and which to let fall apart into pure spectacle. This is what happens when a multimedia franchise stops pretending to be serious about its own setup and just commits to making you care about four groups of men arguing through rhyme schemes.

In a postwar Japan where women hold political power and physical weapons are banned, men settle their disputes through rap. Their tool is the Hypnosis Mic, a device that carries lyrics into a listener's nerves, swaying thoughts and even causing physical harm. The rivalry is territorial: several divisions of Tokyo each field their own crew, and they clash over turf with words as their only weapons. At the center are four groups formed from the former members of The Dirty Dawg, a legendary rap crew that has since broken apart. The all-female Party of Words, which governs the country, begins gathering these former members for reasons of its own. The crews will compete for pride and honor in the first Division Rap Battle. The show mixes action and music within a science fiction setting.
