This is the anime that keeps yanking the audition out from under you on purpose, and then dares you to be mad about it. Mimu Emilton has exactly one goal, get on stage at the Starland Festival and become an Excellent Idol like Yuri, and the show spends four episodes making sure she never once arrives on time. The joke is the structure: every detour, every rescue, every gratuitous flash of underwear is another minute of screen time she is not spending doing the thing she came to do. And the premise is doing more work than it lets on. A united Earth that elected an idol as President, where idol status is a civic ambition, is a sincerity so total it becomes satire. Nineties OVA comedy at its most shameless, built on a girl who genuinely believes she will make it, and honestly, you start believing it too.

Fourteen-year-old Mimu arrives at Earth's prestigious Starland Festival with starry dreams of becoming an idol like her hero, Yuri, who now leads the entire planet. Getting to her audition proves impossible, though. A string of ridiculous mishaps keeps derailing her, and each time the current Excellent Idols help her out of trouble and become her friends. What should be a straightforward competition turns into something far stranger when mysterious aliens abduct Mimu and her new friends just as her audition begins. What starts as a comedy about teenage ambition spirals into a chaotic interdimensional chase. Before long, Mimu finds that the fate of the world may rest on her, provided she can learn to believe in herself. The four-episode OVA mixes adventure, comedy and music, with plenty of silliness along the way.
