Kotoko's ability to weaponize internet rumors against supernatural creatures is the most fun anime has made supernatural investigation in years. She doesn't fight monsters, she manipulates what people believe about them until the fiction becomes real enough to kill them. The chemistry between her scheming and Kuro's exhausted compliance carries the entire show, right down to how a yuki-onna romance subplot gets dismantled by pure logical nastiness instead of sentiment.

Kotoko Iwanaga, revered by spirits as their God of Wisdom, takes on another case with her immortal boyfriend, Kurou Sakuragawa. Years after a yuki-onna saved Masayuki Muroi from a deadly fall during a blizzard, he finds her again after his business fails and his marriage ends. When his ex-wife is found beaten to death, the only one who can confirm his alibi is the yuki-onna, who cannot reveal herself to humans. She turns to Kotoko for help, and Kotoko promises to clear Masayuki without exposing the spirit's existence. The second season mixes supernatural mystery with comedy and romance.
