Bell's stupidity is the entire joke, and the show never apologizes for it. He walks into a dungeon expecting romance novel scenarios and gets his ass handed to him by actual adventurers who couldn't care less about his grandfather's advice. The best part is watching him get smarter about monster hunting while remaining utterly clueless about why girls don't fall into his arms, which means the action actually has stakes because he's genuinely unprepared, not just unlucky.

Bell Cranel is a naive young adventurer in the city of Orario who dreams of becoming the greatest adventurer of all. His grandfather taught him that the Dungeon is the perfect place to rescue girls and meet them. Reality has other ideas. The monster-filled labyrinth beneath the city is deadly, and the women Bell meets are nothing like the damsels he imagined rescuing. Ais Wallenstein, a top-level swordswoman of the Loki Familia, keeps saving him instead. Bell falls for her and resolves to grow strong enough to earn her attention. He is the only member of the Familia led by the goddess Hestia, and he barely notices that other girls, mortal and divine, are developing feelings for him, Hestia most of all. Part action-comedy, part romance, the series mixes dungeon combat with character relationships.
