SD Gundam takes the most serious, most expensive mecha franchise on earth and shrinks it down to chibi proportions just to watch it eat itself. The comedy doesn't come from referencing Gundam lore you already know, it comes from watching tiny robots with giant heads commit to the exact same dramatic posturing as their full-scale originals. This is a show that understands the only thing funnier than a giant robot is a tiny robot that believes it matters just as much.
Two more SD Gundam stories carry on the series' parody of the Gundam saga. In "Space Travel Dream," an Acguy and a Qubeley from the Malon Company draw a group of tourists onto their trip into space. The passengers, Nu Gundam, Gouf, Sazabi, an old Zaku I and Alpha Azieru, grow suspicious of some unusual turbulence and end up landing in the world of Universal Century 79. In "SD Gundam Crazy Races," competitors drive specialized cars in a bid to win a golden trophy, along with assorted prizes such as a TV and an electric piano.
