Prism King is a competition where the judging criteria is literally "who makes girls' hearts throb the most," and the movie commits to that absurdity with zero irony. The performances are excuses to stop the plot cold and just let the music and choreography exist in their own space. If you've ever loved a rhythm game or a concert film more than you expected to, this is that energy made into a movie about teenage boys trying to be the hottest.

The Prism Show unit Over The Rainbow has pulled off a successful debut, and a new wave of students enrolls at Edel Rose hoping to follow in the boy band's footsteps. Hiro and the others start preparing for the Prism King Cup, a competition staged only once every four years. The winner becomes Prism King, the performer best able to set girls' hearts racing. The road to the title gets harder when a rival called Schwarz Rose appears. The film pairs music with sports-style competition as the boys vie for the crown.
