Six seasons in and Kingdom is still escalating, every arc adds weight to what came before instead of repeating it. The animation stumbles sometimes, but the strategy never does; you're watching armies move like chess pieces while the characters holding them together fracture under the pressure of actual command. This is what happens when a show trusts its audience to care about a general's impossible choice as much as the blood spilled because of it.

In ancient China during the Warring States period, Xin, once a servant, leads his Fei Xin Force in pursuit of his dream of becoming the greatest general in the land. King Ying Zheng of Qin has taken power back from Chancellor Buwei Lü and, aided by the strategist Changping Jun and the legalist Li Si, starts building the foundations of a unified state governed by law. When Qin's push into Zhao territory is stopped by the gifted strategist Li Mu, Changping Jun proposes a daring answer: slip past Zhao's defenses and hit the vital city of Gyou, close to the Zhao capital. A combined army under Ou Sen, Kan Ki and the warrior queen Yo Tan Wa takes on the gamble, joined by the younger commanders Xin, Mou Ten with the Gaku Ka Unit, and Ou Hon with the Gyoku Hou Unit, each acting on its own. The battle for Gyou begins, with Qin's hopes of unification at stake.
