In the autumn of his first year of middle school, Arata Kouda comes across a strange, vaguely bird-like creature called Kujima. Since Kujima is hungry, Arata takes him home. The Kouda family is already on edge, worried about the eldest son, who failed his entrance exams and is studying to try again. Kujima gets swept up in the situation and settles in as a freeloader, insisting he will only stay until winter ends and spring warms things up. He talks like a person and eats the same food as humans, insects included, and nobody knows whether he came from outer space or somewhere else entirely. The result is a gentle fantasy home comedy about everyday family life.
