Near the close of the 1800s, a young boy's father dies, and the family must leave behind a comfortable life in the city for an impoverished village in Saitama. There he lives with his mother, his older sister and their dog, and in his new surroundings he comes to learn what really matters in life. The film is a quiet drama rooted in everyday rural life.
