A city kid enrolls in agricultural school expecting to coast on test scores, then immediately confronts the fact that you can't study your way out of raising animals you'll eventually eat. The show doesn't lecture you about this contradiction, it lets Hachiken live inside it, watch his friends navigate it, and figure out what he actually believes. By the end, you're not watching a farm comedy anymore; you're watching someone rebuild his entire value system from the ground up.
Yugo Hachiken escapes the pressure of his family by enrolling at an agricultural boarding school in the Hokkaido countryside, convinced his academic smarts will carry him through anything. He's quickly proven wrong. Surrounded by classmates who grew up on farms and understand crops and livestock inside and out, Hachiken discovers that farming calls for a completely different kind of knowledge. What unfolds is a comedy about culture shock. Hachiken stumbles through dormitory life, early mornings, hard physical labor and the care of farm animals while his classmates, the heirs of farming families, handle the work with ease. Along the way he meets plenty of distinctive people and tries to find a dream of his own, one that would let him live a fulfilling life on his own terms.
