It takes the guy who spent the whole series grinning through everything and puts him in a chair, then makes you sit with him. A year after the Orochi, Tenka Kumou can't feel his legs, so he does what men like him always do: pulls away, keeps the smile on, and lets Soramaru and Chuutarou believe he's fine. Watching Sousei and Kiiko refuse to let him disappear is the whole movie, and the flashbacks into what Tenka carried before any of them knew him recontextualize every easy laugh he ever gave the Kumou household. This is the rare spinoff that isn't fan service, it's the bill coming due for the strongest character in the story. Fans went in for lore and came out wrecked by a man who never once asked to be carried.

One year after the great battle against the Orochi, a gigantic snake, Tenka Kumou is paralyzed from the waist down. Some of his old squad have stayed together, but Tenka has cut himself off from society. As his younger brothers Soramaru and Chuutaro, along with Sousei and Kiiko, try to reach him, hidden parts of his past come to light, including his role in a government human experiment before the battle. The action film is the first part of a trilogy adapting the Donten ni Warau Gaiden spinoff manga.
