A yakuza boss and a chorus club president teaching each other how to sing is absurd until you realize the show actually cares about both of them. The five episodes fly by because every scene between Satomi and Kyoji builds something real, genuine rapport that neither of them expected to find. The art carries you through moments that could be throwaway comedy and makes them feel like small victories. Five episodes is not enough to finish this story, but it's enough to make you wish there was more.

Satomi Oka is a middle school student who leads his school's choir, and with graduation coming, his time in charge is almost over. Then a smooth-talking yakuza named Kyoji Narita approaches him with an odd request: become his singing teacher. Every year Kyoji's gang holds a karaoke contest, and the worst singer has to get a tattoo that the boss designs and applies himself. To escape that fate, Kyoji wants Satomi's help finding a song that suits his voice. Reluctantly, Satomi agrees to join him for one-on-one karaoke practice. The result is a music comedy about a mismatched pair, and it is not clear whether either of them will get past his own troubles.
