Lupin spends most of this special trying to save Fujiko instead of stealing from her, and that shift alone breaks the entire formula in the best way. The amnesia plot is clichéd, but the show knows it, using the device to strip away everything Fujiko is and force Lupin to prove he's more than the thief she knew. Goemon and Jigen's sideline chemistry carries the comedy while Lupin burns through his charm trying to reach someone who doesn't remember him wanting to. It costs him his partner's recognition to show what he actually values. The special doesn't trust sentiment, so it hides the real moment in a weather-control MacGuffin and a heist that never happens.

Fujiko gets hold of a file revealing where to find the Columbus Egg, a legendary relic tied to Christopher Columbus and said to hold power over the weather. She pulls Lupin and the gang into the search. To keep a ruthless villain from learning the secret, she commits the file to memory and destroys it, but she ends up with amnesia that alters her personality and erases nearly all memory of her friends. With rival treasure hunter Rosalia also in the mix and the villain Nazaroff chasing Fujiko as the only key to the Egg, Lupin, Jigen and Goemon race to restore her before the relic falls into the wrong hands. The special mixes action, adventure and comedy.
