This is the Lupin special that takes the annual heist formula, kicks it off a boat, and buries it under the sea floor at Kiritappu. It opens exactly the way it should: Fujiko dangles a lead, Lupin and Jigen do the actual filthy work of dredging the ocean bottom for it, and the payoff is a treasure that supposedly cracks time itself open. Then Kyousuke Mamoh flings the whole gang centuries into the past, and the best part is that Zenigata goes with them, jurisdiction gone, dignity gone, still bellowing Lupin's name at a man who no longer exists in this century. Two feuding tribes, one lost treasure, and a thief who cons people the same way whether he's in a jacket or in period clothes. That's the joke Lupin specials keep landing. Change the era, the man doesn't change.

Acting on a tip from Fujiko, Lupin and Jigen dig into the sea floor off Kiritappu, searching for a lost underwater treasure said to hold the secret of time travel. After the gang slips away from the law, a strange man calling himself Kyousuke Mamoh appears, claiming to come from the future and seeking revenge on Lupin. He throws Lupin, Jigen, Goemon and Inspector Zenigata 500 years into the past. Stranded there, they land between two warring factions fighting over a legendary shrine tied to time travel. Lupin has to crack the mystery of the treasure, or Mamoh will wipe out Fujiko's ancestor, and Fujiko with her. The special is an adventure comedy and a remake of the 13th episode of the original Lupin III series.
