Vivio's entire character exists in the space between what Nanoha demands of her and what she wants to prove about herself. The show treats magical combat like a legitimate sport with rules, rankings, and real stakes. Four years after the events of StrikerS, Vivio Takamachi is in her fourth year of elementary school at St. Hilde Academy of Magic. She can now take on her adult form, and Nanoha has given her a Device of her own, Sacred Heart, on the promise that she will never use either for mischief. Vivio spends her days with family and friends and practices martial arts with her coach, Nove Nakajima. Then a mysterious fighter tied to an ancient Belkan king appears and sets her sights on Vivio. The girl behind the mask, Einhart Stratos, wants to prove her fighting strength, and Vivio ends up training alongside her and entering a martial arts tournament with her friends. The show mixes magical girl action with sports competition.
