Magilumiere takes the one thing magical girl shows never question, why girls are doing this job for free, and builds an entire comedy around a temp agency. Kana's bad luck becomes the perfect excuse to throw her into a corporate magical girl operation, where the real tension isn't saving the world, it's surviving your first week with a coworker who actually has her life together. The animation stutters during fights, but the chemistry between Kana and Hitomi is so sharp that you stop noticing, because watching them bicker through monster extermination while clocking in hours is exactly what the genre needed.

Kana Sakuragi has sat through more than fifteen job interviews without a single offer, even though she is organized, motivated and has a remarkable memory. Monsters called Kaii regularly ravage cities, and wiping them out has become a respected trade run by hundreds of magical girl companies. When a Kaii storms her latest interview, Kana has no combat experience, but she uses her memory and knowledge to help the magical girl who answers the call bring it down. That magical girl, the headstrong Hitomi Koshigaya, sees promise in her and recruits her to Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc., the startup where she works. Eager to make a difference, Kana signs on and becomes a magical girl herself, and the action comedy follows her new career.
