Goro Honda, now in his third year of junior high, comes back to his hometown of Mifune a few years after the events of the first season. He falls back in with his old friends, including childhood friend Komori, almost as if he had never left. Soon he learns that the baseball club at Mifune East Junior High, led by Komori, is on the verge of disappearing. Baseball is still the game Goro loves most, but an injury he picked up while playing for Hitaka Little reminds him how unforgiving the sport can be. With new rivals, old friendships and damaged relationships to deal with, he sets his sights on the elite baseball high school Kaido. The show is a sports drama with a streak of comedy.
