In the near future, Akira Mizutame is a gifted young scientist whose robot Salt helps people with their everyday lives, but his newer inventions keep failing and he hits a wall. A friend tells him that having a girlfriend could give him a boost, so he takes the advice literally and builds one: an artificial girl called No. 0. As her programmed emotions pull against feelings that seem to be her own, No. 0 begins to waver. Akira, who has never been good at connecting with people, faces an open question: will real love grow between them, or something else? The film pairs romance with science fiction.
