Yohta orders a magical girl from a VCR to help him win someone else's heart, and instead gets a glitching mess of a companion who actually cares about him more than the script allows. The whole thing hinges on that malfunction, Ai's supposed to be a tool, but the broken tape makes her real in ways neither of them can control. By the end you're not rooting for him to get the girl he rented a video to seduce; you're watching two people trapped in a romantic comedy that's already started breaking down, and neither of them knows how to stop it.

Yohta's romantic hopes collapse when Moemi, the girl he likes, tells him she has feelings for someone else. Heartbroken, he wanders into an odd video rental shop and comes away with a video girl tape. When he plays it at home, Ai leaps out of his television, ready to help him win Moemi over. The catch: his VCR was malfunctioning, so Ai's personality has come out quite different from how she was meant to be. Flaws and all, she promises to see that Yohta finds happiness and real love. This six-episode OVA mixes comedy, drama, romance and ecchi as it follows a teenage boy's everyday life and his search for a fulfilling relationship, with an unusual helper at his side.
