Kunato's grief hasn't softened between seasons, it's just learned to look at other things. The tsukumogami are still dangerous, still real threats to Kyoto, but he's no longer convinced that destruction is mercy. Season two presses harder: new enemies force him to decide whether the spirits he's learned to see as individuals are worth saving, or whether some things stay broken no matter how much you've changed. This is what happens after someone starts healing, not when they finish.

Hyouma Kunato has grown comfortable living with Botan Nagatsuki and her family of tsukumogami, objects possessed by spirits called marebito, but he still holds on to his goal of revenge. While he trains in Kyoto under the Kadomori family, a trio of musical instrument tsukumogami known as the Bureau of Traditional Music puts its own plan into motion and questions Botan's family about why Hyouma is kept near the one who embodies the boundary between the human and marebito worlds. Then the paper umbrella tsukumogami Hyouma has hunted for years resurfaces and carries off Botan and her university friends, and he races to rescue the girl he vowed to protect. This second season of the action supernatural series may force him to rethink his priorities.
