SYNOPSIS
Rune Balot survives on the streets of Mardock City until casino manager Shell rescues her, offering wealth and a fresh start she never thought possible. Grateful but suspicious, she digs into his background on a computer. When Shell discovers her snooping, he retaliates with brutal finality: a car explosion meant to erase her completely. But Rune lives. In a city drowning in crime, a controversial law called Scramble 09 grants authorities permission to pursue justice through unconventional means. Unwilling to let Shell vanish into the underworld, the police resurrect Rune using experimental technology and pair her with an eccentric professor to rebuild her shattered body and mind. Now surgically enhanced and psychologically restructured, Rune must confront the man who tried to kill her while grappling with the question of who she's becoming in the process. Part revenge thriller, part body horror science fiction, this film explores what happens when survival comes at the cost of your humanity.
