A gothic lolita girl crashes into a town where actual historical scientists are just hanging out, and the show treats both her confusion and their eccentricity as comedy gold. Marie Curie is here, Newton is here, Galileo is here, but none of them act like you learned them in school. The real joke is that historical accuracy gets demolished the moment Marika opens her mouth. It's a show that understands the absurd energy of placing a modern goth aesthetic next to Enlightenment-era figures and letting the collision do the work. The shortform format keeps it lean; each episode drops a new scientist and a new angle of weirdness without overstaying. This hits because it respects both the comedy of culture clash and the comedy of how ridiculous famous dead people would actually be if they were just chilling in one town together.
Marika is a middle school girl with a gothic lolita style who somehow finds her way into the mysterious town of Galihabara. There she meets famous scientists from history, including Galileo Galilei, Marie Curie and Sir Isaac Newton, with the middle-aged Galileo as her main partner. The short comedy segments teach scientific ideas to children through gags, songs and dancing. They aired as part of Suiensa, a weekly science entertainment program on NHK's educational channel, and an episode zero ran in November 2008 when that program first premiered.
