A 600-year-old tragedy told like a fairy tale that refuses to look away from the cruelty underneath beauty. The Monogatari series has always weaponized language to make you feel, but this special strips away the irony and wordplay to expose something rawer: a girl whose greatest gift becomes her greatest wound. What makes it land is that it doesn't pretend sadness makes suffering beautiful. It just sits with her, and makes you sit too.

About six hundred years ago, in a country that has since vanished, there lived a girl of remarkable beauty, and her tale is told as a true story. Released in 2024, this special stands as episode 6.5 of Monogatari Series: Off & Monster Season and adapts the short story A Cruel Fairy Tale: The Beautiful Princess, framed with drama, mystery and supernatural elements.
