Rudeus stops being a story about mechanics and becomes a story about a man rebuilding himself, and the animation doesn't just support that, it is that, every frame bleeding into the next to show you the weight of recovery. The tonal clash between genuine trauma and constant fanservice is brutal, and the show refuses to pretend it isn't. By the wedding, you're not watching a protagonist win, you're watching someone who doesn't deserve what he has finally understand why he has to keep trying anyway.

Rudeus has finally found stability. Having enrolled at the University of Magic on Hitogami's advice, he reunites with his childhood friend Sylphiette, who worked hard to cure his condition, and the two decide to make their relationship official with a wedding party. With the friends he has made over the years gathered to celebrate, life seems to be moving in the right direction at last. But his troubles are not over. Shizuka Nanahoshi, whose research he has been assisting, falls into a deep slump when the work stalls, much like the one Rudeus went through in his previous life. A letter from his father Paul complicates his relationships, and Sylphiette still knows almost nothing about his true past.
