Two men learning to want each other, told almost entirely in silence and water. The film moves like a held breath, every glance and touch weighted with the terror of being seen. Shishido renders the natural world in such precise detail that a raindrop or a reflected tree becomes the only language either of them needs. The shower becomes a confessional, a mirror, a place where vulnerability and desire finally stop pretending to be separate things. You leave it feeling like you've watched something private, something you weren't supposed to see.

Naked Youth is an independent CG film by Shishido Koujirou. A boy steps out of a shower and loses his towel, and just as he grabs it back, someone else emerges from another stall. The two are teammates on a boxing team, and the moment leads them to discover a hidden side of themselves. Shishido traces the uncertainty and thrill of young love between boys, pairing its sexual tension with images from nature such as trees mirrored on a pond and butterflies drifting on the breeze. The film earned several awards, among them a Recommended Work selection at the 10th Japan Media Arts Festival.
