After the tsunami destroys Tashiro-jima, the camera finds the cats still there, moving through wreckage with the same quiet persistence they always had. The island rebuilds around them. You realize you're watching a film about survival that doesn't need to say the word, doesn't need music or drama or anything except the simple fact of life continuing when it has every reason not to.

A community of cats faces the aftermath of catastrophe on the island they call home. Tashiro-jima, often called Cat Island, is badly damaged by the earthquake and tsunami of March 11, 2011. In the wake of the disaster, the island's cats must cope with a situation unlike anything they have faced before. This short drama special runs about five minutes. It had an early screening at a special event in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, on 18 March 2012, before airing on television on 21 March 2012.
