The same three-way cohabitation, still going nowhere, still perfect. New Hal & Bons doesn't try to justify itself or add plot momentum, it just keeps the camera on a couch where nothing is resolved and everything smells worse. If you're still here after the first series, you've already accepted that watching dogs drink beer next to a moldy rice cake is a valid way to spend an evening, and this continuation asks nothing more of you than that same patient, honest stare.

New Hal & Bons is a nine-episode comedy OVA from 2006 that continues the earlier Hal & Bons. That first entry centered on two slacker dogs who spend their time drinking beer on the sofa, until Mochi, a talking rice cake, shows up to interview them. He soon quits interviewing and moves in instead. The pair are torn about their new housemate: he is delicious, but he is socially awkward and has begun to smell.
