Sonic: Night of the Werehog is a genuine Pixar-quality short trapped in a Sonic promotional video, and it knows exactly what it is. The animation alone justifies watching: fluid character work, impeccable timing on slapstick that actually lands, and a haunted house that feels lived-in despite the thin premise. Two ghosts trying to impress a girl by photographing scared visitors turns into something genuinely charming, carried entirely by how well the thing moves and breathes. The story dissolves the moment you stop watching, but for seven minutes, you don't care.

Sonic and Chip head to an abandoned haunted house on a rainy night and soon get caught up in the pranks of two mischievous ghosts. The pair frighten anyone who visits the house so they can photograph them and impress the ghost girl who lives there with them. Their scares leave Chip terrified, but Sonic does not flinch. Angry at their failure, the two ghosts team up to get the better of him, and the full moon may give Sonic the help he needs to stop them. The single-episode action ONA appeared on SEGA's website in 2008 to promote the game Sonic World Adventure, known as Sonic Unleashed in North America and Europe.
