A boy falls through time into the summer he needed instead of the one he got. Twelve-year-old Yuuta lost his father in a traffic accident a year ago. During summer vacation he goes alone to an abandoned dam deep in the mountains, a spot where the two of them used to catch rhinoceros beetles. A thunderstorm strikes, he slips and loses consciousness, and he wakes to find a young girl and a village that ought to lie at the bottom of the dam. Yuuta has slipped back more than thirty years, to a time before the dam was finished. This fantasy film, adapted from a novel by Kawaguchi Masayuki, blends romance and slice of life as another summer vacation begins, one that offers him a chance to reclaim something he thought was gone for good.
