A stray dog stumbles into an actual military hierarchy and accidentally becomes the heart of it. The comedy lives in the gap between Norakuro's complete incompetence and the fact that nobody can get rid of him, so the war just keeps happening around his chaos. By the end you realize the show isn't really about winning the monkey war at all, it's about a dog who found a place to belong by being too stubborn and stupid to leave.

Norakuro is a black-and-white stray dog serving in the Fierce Dog Brigade, an Imperial army made up of white dogs and fighting a war against the enemy Monkey Army. As a Private Second-Class, he stumbles from one mistake to the next. He also has a crush on Miko, an army nurse added for this adaptation, which otherwise stays fairly close to the original comics. Nobuyo Ooyama, later known as the voice of Doraemon, voices Norakuro in this 1970 comedy.
