One word breaks open a whole year of growing up. These girls start as types, careful archetypes in a literature club, then the show refuses to let them stay that simple, each one gets real, gets messy, gets a story about wanting something and the cost of reaching for it. The dialogue sounds like actual teenagers thinking out loud about sex and love and identity, which means it gets crude, it gets melodramatic, it gets painfully sincere in the same breath. By episode three you stop wincing at the premise. By the end you're watching five distinct people figure out who they are when nobody's pretending anymore.

Five girls in a high school literature club sit down for an icebreaker about what they want to do before they die, and when one of them answers "sex," the word unsettles all of them. Soon the idea colors their everyday lives. Kazusa Onodera, who drifted away from her childhood friend Izumi Norimoto after other girls began noticing him too, is thrown into turmoil after walking in on him at a private moment and must face how she really feels. Meanwhile the club, with no teacher willing to advise it, faces being shut down. The result is a comedy drama about growing up, by turns awkward, funny and painful.
