Clockwork Island does what early One Piece does best: throws the crew into an absurd situation and lets them riff off each other while the world builds itself around them. The Trump Siblings and Akisu aren't trying to be tragic or thematically resonant; they're just characters with their own weird stakes, which somehow makes them more believable than villains with grand schemes. It's a movie that knows it exists to let Luffy punch robots in increasingly ridiculous outfits, and it commits to that with the kind of stupid confidence that makes you remember why you started watching in the first place.

Monkey D. Luffy, captain of the Going Merry and a would-be Pirate King, learns from the Thief Brothers that his ship has been taken. The thieves responsible are the Trump Siblings, who have made Clockwork Island their base. To get the Going Merry back, Luffy and his crew, Zoro, Nami, Sanji and Usopp, must fight their way up the island. The result is a feature-length One Piece film that mixes action, adventure, comedy and fantasy.
