This special is a prologue to the film One Piece: Episode of Alabasta and adapts the Whiskey Peak arc. It was produced for a new cut of the movie shown on television during the Premium Saturday broadcast, so it appears only with some TV airings of the film. As a piece of One Piece, it mixes action, adventure, comedy and fantasy in a single episode that leads into the movie's story.
