The Strawhats feel like themselves here, not guest stars in someone else's story. A kid with a dead father's dream and a crew with nothing to lose is the purest One Piece setup possible, and the show knows exactly how to mine it for laughs, Sanji with children, Nami wearing Luffy's hat like she's borrowing something sacred. It drags in places and plays it safer than the series ever does, but that's the price of a special that remembers who these characters are supposed to be.

On a pirate ship, two worn-out crew members want to flee but have no money. Three children held captive aboard hear them, and the eldest, Amanda, whose father was a professional treasure hunter, offers a deal: help them get away and take as much of a great treasure as they like. The five narrowly escape to a small island and meet Luffy and his crew. Their pursuers catch up, though, and Luffy and Amanda are taken to the leader of the Bayan Pirates, who wants the same treasure. Luffy and his friends must now fight the Bayan Pirates and find what Amanda's father left for his children. Amanda has long resented adventure and treasure because they kept her father away. This one-episode special mixes adventure, comedy and fantasy.
