Iska and Alice's dynamic works because neither one blinks first, they're enemies forced into proximity, and the show mines actual tension from watching them navigate jealousy and duty without either character folding into the other's worldview. The world-building has teeth; the Empire-versus-Sovereignty conflict isn't backdrop noise, it's the thing that keeps pulling them apart even when they're standing closest together. Season 2 stumbled hard in production, but when the animation holds, the action sequences snap with real weight, and the character moments land the way a romance only can when both sides have something legitimate to lose.
