Yukari wakes up one day and realizes she's been sleepwalking through her own life. Paradise Kiss doesn't tell you a coming-of-age story, it shows you the exact moment a person stops asking permission and starts asking herself what she actually wants. By the final episode, the fashion show isn't the point anymore; what matters is that she chose to be there, and everyone in that room knows it.

Yukari is an ordinary high school student who does as her parents say and goes to class every day, though she has begun to doubt the way she lives. After a startling encounter on her way home, she wakes up in a place called the Atelier, surrounded by eccentric fashion design students from Yazawa Art Academy who run a clothing label named Paradise Kiss. They need a model for an upcoming show, and they want her. What starts as reluctance slowly gives way to real connection. Seeing how fiercely the group pursues its ideals makes Yukari realize she has not been enjoying her own life, and she is inspired to chase dreams of her own. Alongside the sketches and show preparations, she is drawn ever deeper into the group and falls for its leader, George.
