This is the Persona anime that refuses to be a video game highlight reel, and that's exactly why it splits the room. Ten years after the Apathy Syndrome hollowed people out, Ayanagi City is a clean coastal rebuild with rot underneath, and the first real hook isn't a dungeon crawl, it's a submarine crew that vanishes inside their own vessel. The Kanzato brothers carry it: Ryo running the city police with a decade of silence behind him, Shin walking into a Persona awakening nobody prepared him for, and Jun stuck being the youngest one everybody talks around. It plays the whole thing as a crime procedural first, supernatural second, which is a genuinely bold read on the source material. Fair warning, the cast can feel cold next to SEES, and new faces get dropped in with almost no runway. Stay for the brothers. That's the show.

Ayanagi City, on the Japan Sea coast, is a futuristic city built to recover from the disaster caused by the Apathy Syndrome ten years earlier. High school student Shin Kanzato and his younger brother Jun are reunited with their elder brother Ryō, now chief of the city police, for the first time in a decade. At the same time, strange incidents spread through the city: the crew of a submarine disappears, a spiritless condition resurfaces, and a student is found as a grotesque inside-out corpse. Ryō pursues the organization behind these events, and Shin, drawn into them, awakens a Persona. Based on Atlus's Persona games, the story is set ten years after Persona 3.
