Nobody expected Nitro+ to commit this hard to a joke. A full fake website, an official announcement, the whole Madoka visual language weaponized as a parody of itself, all for one minute of SoniComi girls in magical girl uniforms. The punchline lands because the production values are completely sincere about something completely absurd.
Puella Magi Sonico Magica is a single short ONA that Nitroplus put out on April 1, 2011 as a hoax. Framed as the opening sequence of a new TV anime, it spoofs Puella Magi Madoka Magica by recasting the cast of the studio's visual novel SoniComi as magical girls. A website promoting the supposed series went up the same day, and it even credited Gen Urobuchi with the screenplay, but no series was ever made. The opening video is the entire production: a brief musical joke built on magical girl conventions.
