Anime Like Ranma ½ (1989)
A teenage boy cursed to turn into a girl every time he gets wet, constantly running from marriage proposals he never asked for, while his love interest remains completely oblivious to his existence. The comedy never stops because the premise itself never stops generating new chaos from the same five ingredients. 143 episodes means this show trusts its formula enough to mine absurdity from it for years, and it works because the formula is that good.
SYNOPSIS
Ranma Saotome has a problem: cold water turns him into a girl, and hot water turns him back. Living under one roof with Akane Tendo, his arranged fiancée, should be complicated enough. Instead, his life becomes a revolving door of would-be suitors, each more determined than the last. Shampoo, a Chinese Amazon warrior, arrives with revenge on her mind after losing to girl Ranma in combat. When boy Ranma defeats her, tribal custom demands she marry him. Before things can settle, she falls into a cursed spring and transforms into a cat whenever she gets wet. Then there's Mousse, hopelessly in love with Shampoo, who somehow mistakes Ranma as his real rival for her affection. What starts as a premise about Ranma's bizarre curse spirals into genuine romantic chaos. Between martial arts tournaments, absurd magical transformations, and increasingly elaborate schemes from every direction, Ranma and Akane navigate a relationship that can't seem to stay simple for five seconds. Comedy collides with action as the cast grows more unhinged and lovesick.
